Garden Theme For Next Transition Café

The March Transition Belper Café will be held at No 28 Community Hall, Market Place, Belper on Saturday 25th March from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.

The theme for this month’s event is gardening and they are inviting local residents to bring seeds or seedlings to swap – especially those vegetables that will soon need planting out.

There will be displays and information about Transition Belper’s gardening projects – maintaining the Railway Station gardens, the topiary work ongoing at Crich Lane Festival Garden and the new back garden veg box scheme that is about to get underway. In addition visitors can find out more about Transition Belper’s other projects and groups including the Belper Goes Green ECO Festival (2nd – 4th June at Belper Rugby Club), the B-Hive ECO Shop for a range of environmentally friendly cleaning and toiletry products, the Travel and Transport Group and Inner Transition majoring on wellbeing.

They will also be welcoming Radio Derby’s Garden Guru, Mark Smith, who will be available to answer visitor’s vegetable growing questions in return for a small donation towards Cancer Research in memory of Radio Derby’s Andy Potter.

Outside there will be the Town Council’s table of free plant pots for Belper residents – or spare pots can be left there rather than going in the bin, – whilst inside will be the latest information about Belper’s In Bloom bid on behalf of the East Midlands.

Transition Belper’s monthly Café at No 28 is fast becoming a ‘must attend’ social event for many Belper residents who simply want to network and chat over a cuppa and a slice of delicious home-made cake.

There’s also the opportunity to get involved as they are looking for volunteers to help out with the kitchen and café side of the day each month.

Anyone wishing to volunteer can contact them at info@transitionbelper.org

David’s blueberry & raspberry buterfly cakes were a taste sensation and Rose’s chewy, fruity flapjack biscuits were delicious.
