Pauline Latham doesn’t understand planning law – she thinks there is ‘no plan’ but the 2006 plan is still operational. She thinks the Council has no powers to resist bad developments without a new plan – also wrong. She also ignores the fact that the proposed plan to build on the Green Belt was thrown out by Labour after an overwhelming vote against the Conservative proposals last May. An MP really ought to be better informed than that.
that was very good ,,,, informative and a great public service to our community of Belper . I will encourage other people to Watch and listen to it.

Well done Claire and the Nailed team. In general the candidates did pretty well too – so much more helpful than the frantic posturing we’ve had to endure on TV.
As a TB member I had a particular reason for watching this and am glad to have contributed to our disclaimer and thankful to Nailed for publishing it. But this is a far as we would want to go, and I’m only sorry we didn’t get around to holding a special hustings on sustainability issues as we did in 2015.
So the foillowing comments are from me as an individual and don’t represent the views of TB
I have to say that Pauline Latham’s claim to be ‘in the forefront’ personally on local sustainability issues can be defended up to a point (speaking up for Ambergate Hydro and against single use plastic), and this was graciously recognised by Sue MacFarlane when she referred to PL’s need to do the lobbying .
But what has annoyed me most (and the reason for this post) is PL’s claims for the outgoing Tory government to be ‘in the forefront’ too! In 2015, as soon as they got out of the Coalition, they started backsliding and have been doing so ever since – killing the Department for Climate Change, encouraging fracking, stopping onshore wind, hobbling the solar PV supply chain, chopping other renewables subsidies all spring to mind.
But in my view the deepest and most worrying cut was revoking the carbon efficiency requirements for all new housing builds. What a signal it would have sent out if they had been retained! It’s ironic to hear about the proud claims for numbers of housing starts which are being made now – just adding to the massive stock of housing which is going to need insulation and renewables retrofits.
This has got to stop. When are we going to get back on track?
