On Sunday 23rd October Belper North Mill was offering free entry to its exhibitions as part of the Derwent Valley Mills series of ‘Discovery Days 2016’ running until 30th October. At the same time, in a venue adjacent to the Mill, was the ‘Belper Mills Artists and Makers Fair’ featuring a large number of stalls with a wide variety of art and craft items on offer, showcasing the talents of local creatives.
At North Mill, there was also a temporary display of work created during craft workshops and volunteer guides were dressed in period costume, adding to the atmosphere. Volunteers were able to share their knowledge on certain topics, such as what actually was ‘chevening’?
There were various talks and tours on offer around the town – you could learn about what the Strutts did for Belper, about the Belper Hydro or go inside the former mansion home of a Belper Nailmaster. Underwear featured large at No.28 Cafe on the Market Place!
With so much going on, there really was something for everyone to enjoy.
