Iconic British Aircraft To Get 2018 Heage & Nether Heage Carnival Underway

A Spitfire and Hurricane from the RAF’s Battle of Britain memorial fleet will swoop over a Derbyshire village next week to mark the start of its carnival.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight team has a fleet of 12 aircraft, which is made up of a Lancaster Bomber, a Dakota, two Hurricanes, six Spitfires and two Chipmunks.

One of the fleet’s most recent outings was for the Trooping the Colour ceremony in London which was watched from the balcony of Buckingham Palace by the Queen and the Royal Family.

But on Saturday, June 30, the iconic aircraft will fly over the village famous for its six-sailed stone tower windmill.

The aircraft are scheduled to fly over at 11.55am, weather permitting.

The carnival makes a welcome return to Heage Primary School after a break. Organisers promise it will be a fun-packed event with live music, performances from local dance schools, real ale and ciders, crafts and activities.

Rebaz Mohammed, a professional freestyle footballer, will make a special appearance while show goers can try their hand at hula-hooping, sumo wrestling and provide circus skills.

There will be exotic animal handing, stalls selling everything from cake to homemade chutney and hot food available.

Real ales and cider will be served by the Hairy Brewers Ales, Derbyshire-based The Tipsy Pony – a bespoke renovated horse box – will be selling delicious Prosecco and gin cocktails while cream teas will be available on the school grounds.

Sarah Henshaw, of the Heage & Nether Heage carnival committee, said: “We’ve worked really hard to get everything ready for the 2018 Carnival and it promises to be a great day out for the whole family.

“It’s a proper community event; it is so nice walking round the village and seeing many people taking part in our scarecrow competition.

“The carnival will conclude with a Tug of War at 3.30pm, with all ages taking part.”

Heage & Nether Heage Carnival 2018 will take place on the grounds of Heage Primary School from midday on Saturday, June 30.

Entry is £1 for adults. Children are free. Please note, no dogs will be allowed on the carnival site.
