HERITAGE & HISTORYNEWSWHAT'S ON

Walk Off The Christmas Excess And Breathe In The Heritage

There’s a chance to work off some of the extra pounds you’ll be putting on over Christmas – and learn about one of the East Midlands’ most historic communities – this Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

For the 14th year in a row, Strutt’s North Mill at Belper has planned two heritage walks which will give people a chance to get some gentle exercise and learn why Belper is the only town in the East Midlands with World Heritage Status.

At 2pm on Tuesday December 26, from Strutt’s North Mill, Adrian Farmer will be leading a walk taking in some of the old trades and tradespeople from the past 250 years.

At the same time from the same starting point on Monday January 1, there’ll be a different walk, led by Dawn Churchill, taking in some of the lesser-known history of the town.

Organiser Adrian said: “There’s something rather special about the Boxing Day and New Year’s Day walks – it’s a wonderful chance to get outside and take in a bit of local history during the holiday season. We change the routes every year, so the tours stay fresh, and we have a wonderful treat, looking inside one of Belper’s best historic buildings, at the end of both walks.”

Both walks cost £4 per person, and will include a free warm drink to finish off the journey. No booking is needed – just turn up on either day.
