Belper’s Beautiful Parks Win Green Flag Award

Belper Parks, Belper River Gardens and Belper Cemetery are amongst the eight parks and green spaces in the Amber Valley area to win the prestigious Green Flag Award.

Pennytown Ponds in Somercotes, Crossley Park in Ripley, Crays Hill Park, Heanor Memorial Park and Riddings Park, have also received the award.

The Green Flag is a sign to visitors that parks and green spaces are well-maintained and well-managed, with excellent facilities.

Councillor Chris Short the Cabinet Member for Environment at Amber Valley Borough Council said:

This is a wonderful achievement for Amber Valley, and a fitting reward for all the hard work that goes into making these areas so appealing to visitors and such great assets to the Borough as a whole. A very important element of the success of the flag-winning parks is community involvement, with each of the parks having an active local community contributing to its development and use, and helping maintain the exceptional standards.

Over the past eight years we have also invested more than £3m, in our parks and so it is very pleasing to see this result in eight Green Flag awards this year.
