New County Council Youth Grant Scheme Launches

A new grant scheme has been launched by Derbyshire County Council.  They have made £50,000 available for the development of youth activities in Derbyshire.  The grant scheme has been named “YouthInc, We Grant”  and was developed with Derbyshire Youth Council.  It will award up to £1,500 each to community youth groups.

The funding can be spent on activities such as sports, music and games clubs and dance and drama sessions, as well as more unusual new projects.

The decisions on how the money will be awarded will be made by the youth council (with guidance).  The Youth Council is made up of 45 elected representatives from Derbyshire schools, aged between 11 and 19. They will be tasked with considering factors such as; whether the project is accessible to all young people, how many young people will benefit and how long the project will run for, whether it is value for money and the long term impact of the funding.

Deputy Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Damien Greenhalgh (Labour), said:

“The YouthInc, We Grant scheme is a grant by young people for young people and will give deserving projects throughout Derbyshire a real boost.

“I’m extremely proud of our youth councillors for the hard work and maturity they continue to show, but especially when devising this scheme.

“I’m looking forward to receiving grant applications and working with our Youth Council to decide what this grant will be spent on to benefit young people and deliver on their annual agreed priorities.”

Belper’s Labour County Councillor John Owen said “It is vital that we offer youth groups whatever support we can as they nurture the next generation in our town”
