Free Bicycle Marking Event At Belper Market Place

Officers from the Belper Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team are offering you the chance to get your bicycle security marked and registered for free.

The team will be at Belper Market Place, between 8.30am and 1pm on Saturday, February 9th. The event will take place at the same time as the Farmers Market.

Cyclists will each be given a kit which works by marking the bike with a unique code linked to the owner’s details on a secure database. If the bicycle is stolen and subsequently found, police can use this code to ensure the bike is returned to its rightful owner.

The event is also an opportunity for local residents to chat to the team about any issues or concerns.

PCSO Scott Hunt, of the Belper Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:

Cycling is a great way to get around and stay fit, and I imagine quite a few people may have had new bicycles over the Christmas period. Getting your bike security marked and registered will make it less attractive to thieves as it will be harder to sell on and will also help police to trace and return your bike to you if it is ever stolen and recovered.

If you are unable to make the event, you can also contact the Belper Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team by calling 101, or send them a message through the My Local Police pages of the website, by clicking here: Derbyshire Police.
