WHAT'S ON

Matt McGuinness And The MLC + Jack’s Got A Plan At The Queens Head, Belper – September 22nd

And so to an enthralling and eclectic new season at The Queens Head with hopefully the right balance of established favourites and intriguing new acts. The first act certainly meets the venue’s criterion for bringing you original acts with a clear sense of direction.

Risen from the ashes of Karl and the Marx Brothers, Matt and the MLC continue to blend warm, textured sounds with provocative and often vitriolic lyrics. The songs resonate from genuine, shared experience but with a positive outlook and humour laced with what Matt likes to describe as a ‘healthy dose of sarcasm.’ Musically, the MLC are no slouches either with pop, folk and jazz themes seamlessly interwoven.

Jack’s Got a Plan provide quality support with distinctive songwriting and the kind of musicianship that only comes from years of playing. Having played The Temple at The Matlock Bath Festival they can truly be said to have occupied the top spot.

Tickets are £6 on the door and the acts start at 8.00pm.

Looking ahead, one of our finest songwriters and entertainers, Anthony John Clarke, returns on September 30th and other acts include Sunjay, Headsticks with many more to follow.

Look out also for quirky folk duo Against the Grain and Carol Hodge in collaboration with Simon Wells.
