WHAT'S ON

New Leaders Needed For Alton Manor Scouts

Young members of a popular Beaver Scout section in Belper are wishing for some new leaders for Christmas.

The group of six to eight-year-olds are part of the 1st Alton Manor Scout Group and meet every Monday evening during term time at Alton Manor Community Hall on Gregory’s Way.

Due to a change in personal circumstances some of the leaders are having to stand down at the end of term in December. Now the group needs four regular volunteers to step in and ensure the section can continue to run safely.

Darren Barnes, group Scout leader, said: “Beaver Scouts is the first step that children take in Scouting. 1st Alton Manor has two sections which are both very popular, and most of the children go on to become Cubs and then Scouts.

“However you’re never too old to discover Scouting and many parents and volunteers have found becoming a leader very rewarding. It can also enhance your own career prospects and lead to new opportunities.

“You will receive full training and be supported all the way by the other leaders within the Scout group.”

The group meets from 6pm to 7.15pm, and there would be some additional time involved to help plan activities.
