Pubs Must Remain Shut & Cannot Sell Takeaway Booze

Although pubs were initially allowed to sell alcohol as a takeaway item after being ordered to close, this is no longer the case now that we are in lockdown.

The ability to sell takeaway alcohol was removed with the strict new restrictions on movement, designed to halt the spread of the coronavirus amongst the population.

As people might not be fully aware, and as some pubs might flout the restriction, as they did on the night that pubs were closed with “immediate effect”, the police want people to be informed that they are not allowed to do this.

Pubs can however, keep serving any remaining food on a takeaway basis, but only if they have a restaurant facility because food has been classified by the Government as the essential item. Alcohol has not.

Restaurants and cafes can continue to serve takeaway food only.

A representative of Derbyshire Constabulary said,

“We know that the vast majority of pub managers and licensees across Derbyshire are already abiding by the Government sanctions in the wake of COVID-19 and we would like to thank them.

We are also aware that some pubs have continued to open and our licensing teams, together with local authorities, are already gathering information about them. Those who flout the regulations may face unlimited fines and the potential revocation of their license further down the line.”

Only specific businesses are allowed to open public premises now.

Additional to this, all local businesses ordered to close, who remain open, will be banned from all Nailed promotions and coverage, until taken over by new management.  The restrictions are to stop the spread of the virus and continued violation of those restrictions puts lives at risk.  At Nailed we have a rule not to treat any member of the community as an enemy, and do not use othering language, even when a crime is committed.  However in this situation, such behaviour puts the lives of all Belper people at risk, and constitutes wilful endangerment and potentially murder.  Nobody acting in such a way and wantonly endangering our people will find a platform on Nailed.
