Live Feed on Cancelled Events and Closed Places
Many events have to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We expect closures to increase from Monday, and to eventually include shops and other businesses and locations.
Here you will find every cancelled event and closed location which we are informed about. This feed will be updated every time we receive notification of a closure or cancellation.
The most recently received cancellations will appear at the top of the page. Dates show the date we published the cancellation/closure, not the date of the event. To cancel an event please email: editor@nailed.community or message our Facebook page.

Schools
All schools in Belper will close by Friday, but will provide childcare for parents working in essential services (medical, police, fire etc.)
Last night Belper School chose Monday as their first closed date, which is in line with today’s decision to close schools from Friday. They issued the following letter to parents:
There will continue to be a skeleton staff in school to ensure that some necessary operations continue. Details of how you can contact school staff during the closure period and any updates will be posted on the school website.We will also be sending out a full plan for the next few weeks soon.
In these unprecedented times the NHS and other first responder public services have a vital role to play in managing this crisis. With this in mind, the school will offer basic supervised self-study from 9am until 2pm every day for any children of parents of these services. They will not be taught their normal lessons and will need to bring packed lunches but we hope that this will help to support our vital emergency services. Please email details of your role, place of work and your child/children’s names to info@belperschool.co.uk by 9am on Friday. A written note given to the office with the same information is fine if email is not available. For safety reasons, we will only be able to admit students whose parents have contacted us.
Transition Belper Activity
“As well as sadly cancelling our annual eco festival, Transition Belper is also suspending all indoor events for the foreseeable future.
This means that the Green Exchange and Repair Café this weekend are cancelled and so are any similar events until further notice. Green Drinks is also suspended. The Women’s Circle have agreed to meet online.
For now our groups that gather outdoors will be continuing, but with added precautions in place. Adrian and Kate who take care of the gardening and conservation groups will be sharing information about this to those who are involved.
Transition Belper would like to ask that we all take care of each other in these unprecedented times. Much positive community action can come into play at a time like this, despite the many challenges.”

Belper Goes Green
“It is with sadness that the Belper Goes Green organising committee have made the decision to cancel the 2020 festival. This is due to the ever developing Covid-19 pandemic. It is important that we prioritise the health and safety of all involved and as we are unable to do this the decision was made to cancel.
The Chair, Mark Creed, would like to thank all committee members for their hard work and dedication in setting up this event for our local community. It is appreciated.
Vendors and stallholders will be hearing from us in due course regarding any refunds/cancellations. Thanks as well to the bands who were due to perform and all others signed up to participate or volunteer. Hopefully we will see you next time.
Be rest assured that the Committee will be working behind the scenes to ensure that arrangements for Belper Goes Green 2021 begin shortly and we plan on making this the best one ever.
More information regarding the 2021 dates will be available in due course.”
VE Day
The planned day on May bank holiday to celebrate peace for VE Day has been cancelled by organiser Paul Terry.
Belper Fringe
Belper Fringe (replacement for Belper Arts Festival) has been cancelled as a physical event but may occur online.
“Obviously the Fringe will not now be happening this year. However we are looking to put together a virtual Fringe. Using Facebook Live and YouTube Live, we will be speaking with organisers and will keep you informed. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. We will beat the boredom.”
Ashbourne Animal Welfare Open Day
The Open Day at The Ark in Ashbourne on 5th April has been cancelled.

The Bohemians concert st St Peters on 2nd May will now be on Nov 13th. All tickets purchased will be valid for that date.

This classical piano concert on 3rd April is now cancelled. Tickets had not yet gone on sale.

Rough Truffles Community Choir
“It is with great reluctance and heavy hearts that the Rough Truffles committee, in consultation with the choir’s musical director, has decided to suspend choir sessions with immediate effect. “The escalating Coronavirus situation, and official advice, is such that we feel we cannot put our members’ health at risk. This also obviously means we will be cancelling our forthcoming engagements. “We will keep the situation under review and look at reconvening as soon as it is prudent to do so. “In the meantime please feel free to use the Rough Truffles’ Facebook page to keep in touch, especially if you are feeling isolated or need practical help. “Such a sad message to have to write. Belper Community Hall – Toy Sale
Toy Sale Postponed
“With the threat of coronavirus and wanting to ensure everyone’s peace of mind and make sure no one misses out, we have made the decision to postpone our toy sale until the threat is lifted.
Should there be a particular item you were hoping to get please message us, alternatively we are proposing to have a virtual Facebook Toy Sale event (date tbc), we will be photographing toys and creating bargain bundles over next week or so…
Thank you for your ongoing support. This does not affect group at classes at Belper Community Hall at this moment in time.”
Belper Players – Goodnight Mister Tom
Belper Players have taken the regrettable, but inevitable decision to postpone their next play, Goodnight Mister Tom, which was due to be performed at the Strutt Centre in Belper from 22nd to 25th April.
Chairman Nick Mothershaw said: “Given the escalating situation with coronavirus, we have postponed the performances of Goodnight Mister Tom.
“With the Government poised to ask over 70s to stay at home, and with a number of over 70s in the cast, trying to continue without them would not be appropriate and would be unfair. But most importantly, I would not want any Belper Players member put at risk of contracting the virus by attending a rehearsal at this time.
“This is clearly a very difficult decision, but better to make this decision now rather than to put any member at risk. We can reschedule the performance when this awful situation is over.”
Anyone who has already bought a ticket will be refunded.
