All Clear For Coronavirus
The family in Belper who were being tested for coronavirus have received the results of their tests for Covid-19 and they have come back negative.
Neither the man who had contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19, nor his husband, have coronavirus.
He said this, “comes as a great sense of relief and I’m sure you will all feel the same.”
The man in question has been ill, but this is believed, by medical professionals, to be norovirus, commonly known as “the vomiting bug”, or something very similar. Norovirus, despite having a similar sounding name, is one of the most common stomach bugs in the UK, miserably but non-fatally experienced by lots of people every winter.
Norovirus is still contagious, and still requires some precautions to limit it being passed on. However, they are still advised to complete the 2 week period of self isolation, until 16th March, which will cover any contagiousness period
The cases of coronavirus in Britain rose by 13 yesterday, to 36. The government held a COBRA (Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms) meeting yesterday to determine the national response to the illness.
We will publish their measures when the final decisions have been made. Nothing has yet been ruled out. What is known and advised by medical professionals and the World Health Organisation can be found HERE.
The man at the centre of this story wanted to say,
“Don’t let the fear take over, as unfortunately this is the time for bugs and other such viruses. Just act according to advice, and be responsible for yourself and each other.
“I believe we should all act in the best interest of firstly ourselves and of others. I can not thank you enough for the love and continued support, and genuine offers for shopping. Please stay safe, and well done to the majority for showing what type of community we live in.
“I feel it’s important we deal with this head on and I’ve tried my best to do so. I hope this has helped. I do understand however if this has caused anyone concern or worry, please know this was not our intention. I feel that by taking responsibility for the situation it would help the community deal with it in a relaxed and clam way. Rather than rumour and speculation. ”
