2nd Saturday Flood Update
All flood warning alerts along the Derwent have been reduced to Amber 1, with the exception of Derby, which remains at Red 4.
The colour is the severity. The number is the tally of problem areas. In this case the “lower Derwent” is being treated as 1 location.
This means “risk of flooding – be prepared.”
The levels are dropping at points where the river has monitoring equipment, but due to heavy rainfall the warning remains. Light rain is expected this afternoon.
We can no longer advise on road closures, as official notices are not being updated for roads.
Trains are still cancelled.
The 6x bus is running a diverted route.
Hello Clare
It is so good to see such very well written news. My daughter sent me the link today so I understand the Belper flood situation better. I live in Stafford. Thank you and your team for all your hard work.
The farmer who grazes his sheep near the river cleverly anticipated the heavy rainfall last week by putting rain collars on all his sheep! I remember after one particularly torrential downpour a few years ago the sheep were so drenched by the rain that the farmer sheared them all.
Radio 4 today (Weds 13 Nov) predicts more heavy rain on Thursday evening & Friday.
For those who don’t know, the Hilltop Stores at the top of Belper Lane sells groceries (& chocolate).
