The owners of Soi Kitchens are now close to opening the Strutt Arms. Milford’s historic inn has been lying neglected and unused for nearly a decade.  The refurbished pub will have enough space for 200 covers and 11 bed and breakfast rooms upstairs.  Nailed covered this here

 

 

Discovery Days

There are four events in Milford during this year’s Discovery Days, three on the opening day – Saturday, October 26th – with the fourth being an exhibition about Milford in Just-Ice.     There are 9 days of events and activities throughout the Derwent Valley – walks, talks, tours, workshops, exhibitions, open houses and family fun events.

Milford in the Belper Calendar

The 2020 Belper Calendar is now in the shops and includes three images taken on The Chevin in Milford – April, June & November – while Gill Thompson’s award-winning front garden shares the August page with an eye-catching Belper garden.  Gill’s hanging baskets, at the The Bike Shop, won one of three Belper in Bloom awards for Milford & Makeney properties, for Best Hanging/Wall Basket in Belper in Bloom 2019.  Gill’s frontage will be featured in the 2020 Belper Calendar.  Milford Social Club won Best Commercial Premises, and the Holly Bush won Best Public House.  Congratulations to all three.

The calendar is available from the following outlets: Hallmark, Today’s Express, Fresh Basil, News Corner, Hall of Frames, Hilltop Stores, Holly Bush Inn (Makeney), King William and Milford Social Club (Milford).

There is also a Duffield Calendar, which is available from: Duffield News; Duffield Post Office; Duffield Squash, Racquetball &; Tennis Club; and Croots Farm Shop, all in Duffield.

BUS SHELTER – MAKE YOUR VOICE KNOWN

A decision will soon be made about the Milford Bus Shelter near the Strutt Arms.  A few months ago the wooden shelter was removed but nothing has replaced it.  Belper Town Council has to decide whether to replace it and, at their meeting on 5th November, they will make that decision.  The more people who email them or write in favour of replacing the shelter will really count towards getting it replaced.  If you are a concerned resident, please contact Belper Town Council asking for a new shelter in a prominent place.  Telephone: 01773 822116) or email clerk@belpertowncouncil.gov.uk.
