Nigel Mills MP Visits Heage Windmill’s Project Sails

We were delighted to receive a visit at Heage Windmill, on Monday 19th August, from local Amber Valley MP, Nigel Mills.

He was greeted on arrival by the Chair of the Friends of Heage Windmill, Cllr Angela Ward. She remarked that his name was appropriate to the location and that he was lucky to there with good weather as we have had some recent storm conditions.

David Land, maintenance manager, took Nigel into the nearby marquee where volunteers are in the process of making two new sails. One of the sails is in the very early stages of production but looking at the other, which is closer to completion Nigel could see, and was impressed by, the complexity and skills involved in the project.

Following this, Nigel was taken on a conducted tour of the mill by Miller Brian Naylor, who also showed him the key mechanisms.

Angela Ward explained that this work couldn’t be done without the dedicated team of volunteers. She added that at the moment the Mill really needs more people to come and join our team and said that, of course, funding is also always needed to enable projects such as the sails to take place and generally to help keep the them turning.
