North Mill Heritage Walks for July
The July heritage walks by Strutt’s North Mill started on Sunday 7th with the Strutt Farms Walk, led by Adrian Farmer and Alex Gilbert. The walkers visited Dalley Farm and Crossroads Farm. This was only the second time in the history of Crossroads Farm that members of the public have been allowed access to the main building and gardens. The farmhouse was originally built 200 years ago, as a coaching inn, and the walkers were able to see which parts of the inn had survived and see some restoration to duck and goose cotes.
The weekly walk season for Strutt’s North Mill continues right through until the World Heritage Site Discovery Days Festival at the end of October.

- The Southern Border of the Duffield Frith

The Duffield Frith was a medieval forest of deer parks, tightly-controlled communities and ancient industries. Discover why the southern boundary followed a certain route, and how the landscape still helps us to perceive it.
- Darley Abbey and Little Chester

A circular walk through Darley Park to Little Chester for a look at Derby’s Roman past, returning along the east bank of the river to the thriving mill complex at Darley Abbey.
- From the Mill to the Workhouse

WHERE: Strutt’s North Mill (DE56 1YD)
LEADER: Christine Smith.
Follow the 201 year old old turnpike road, discovering the hidden past by the side of the A6. Learn how Belper folk lived in past centuries and explore the changes and challenges ahead. Flat terrain with some narrow pavements. Not a circular walk.
All walks start at 2pm and are £5 per person, under 16s free. They can be booked via the museum website www.belpernorthmill.org.uk.
