URGENT: Food Bank Donations Needed

Belper Food Bank has completely run dry of certain products and needs the help of kind Belper people to help feed those worst hit by the mercilessness of austerity.

The items which are desperately needed are

  • TINNED POTATOES
  • INSTANT MASH
  • COFFEE
  • CARROTS
  • MIXED VEGETABLES
  • BISCUITS
  • MILK
  • DEODORANT
  • PUDDINGS
  • EVAPORATED MILK

The Food Bank also gives out toothpaste, toothbrushes, shower gel, sanitary products, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, and other essential products, including special dietary needs.

This necessary service was originally The Basic Idea Food Bank, which under Hope For Belper has served those in crisis for 10 years. It is now the Food and Community Hub and offers more help than just food.  Still part of Hope for Belper, they have, under their new name, partnered with Freedom Bolsover, to provide a face to face advice service. They have fully trained and accredited advisors, who are available over a Skype link,  to give advice on Universal Credit, other benefits, housing issues, debt management and other issues.

The new service offers internet access for online accounts and job seeking, and the Hub supplies free tea, coffee, snacks and a place to sit and chat.

TO ACCESS THE FOOD BANK:
The Hub makes up 3 meals a day for 3 days.  Those in need of the service still need to be referred for food parcels (by a charity, GP, Citizens Advice, local council), but can access the other forms of assistance on a drop in basis at the Food and Community Hub, inside the Baptist Church, on Bridge Street, between 12pm and 2pm every Tuesday and Friday.

TO DONATE:
Please refer to the list for the most needed products. There are donation boxes in all the churches in Belper, the Catholic Church in Duffield, the Central Co-op on Strutt Street, and the Whitemoor Co-op.  Your donations will help feed those with nowhere else to turn.

This Christmas I’m doing a Reverse Advent Calendar.

A Reverse Advent Calendar works by you putting in a box every day during Advent one item of food or clothing that can then be taken to a food bank on Christmas Eve.

It’s a simple way to make a big difference in the Belper community.

    Hi Richard
I saw your post ( or one similar on Facebook). I’m doing this as well. Is it ok to drop off on 24/12 or is this required earlier?
    Kind regards Lu
