NEWSPOLITICS

New Council; New Mayor

Statement from Belper Town Council, which is now 96% Labour, with one former Labour Independent:

Following Labour’s recent victory and the change in administration Belper Town Council are delighted to announce their new Leadership Team.

Fay Atkinson, who was elected Cllr for Belper East ward will now lead the Council – with Jyoti Wilkinson, Cllr for Belper South serving as her Deputy.

Cllr Simon Mallett has accepted the honour of becoming the administration’s first Mayor, and will be supported by his Deputy Cllr Mary Dwyer as they engage Belper’s brilliant community.

New Leader Cllr Atkinson says “I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Belper Labour Group  to thank the people of Belper who have put their faith in us, it is truly an honour to represent such an amazing town. We are committed to making Belper a better place for everyone. However,  it is important to remember that there are people in our community who are vulnerable or struggling to make ends meet.  Working with openness, transparency and accountability, we will do everything in our power to tackle these issues head on – as well as investing and working with the groups, organisations and members of the public that make Belper such a vibrant and welcoming Town.”

We will be working to deliver on our manifesto promises, Whether it be finally getting the Tea Rooms project underway or setting up a Youth Council so young people have a real voice, Belpers new Labour led Council are now looking forward to getting things done!
