New fitness challenge comes to Derbyshire
A 9km run followed by an 8km paddle – it’s the Wild Trent Challenge, a brand new fundraiser run by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust set to take place on 31st August 2019.
And it’s pretty special – not only will you get the chance to take in the beautiful Trent Valley on foot, along a route which takes you along the River Trent’s riverbank but you’ll also finish the race with a canoe downstream – a chance to test your physical fitness but also immerse yourself in the beautiful surroundings which you will be raising money for. And it’s more important now than ever before. That’s because the UK has already seen a decline across 56% of species and nature is in real trouble.
Jack Roper’s organising the event on behalf of Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, and said, “It’s not too late – we can help Derbyshire’s wildlife recover if we have the resources. This is a brand new initiative for the Trust to raise vital funds so we can do more work to restore Derbyshire’s wildlife. If you are a keen runner or love water sports then this is a great challenge and a brilliant way to raise some money for a good cause!”
It costs just £35 to enter (you’ll need to enter in a team of 2 or 3 due to the size of the canoes) and you’ll need to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship – but don’t worry, the Trust have created some handy tips to help you do just that!
Enter the race with a few of your mates at www.derbyshirewildlifetrust.org.uk/wild-trent-challenge-2019 – only 80 places are available so grab yours fast. You can choose from a 9.30am start or a 2.30pm start
Wild Trent Challenge starts and finishes at Trent Adventure’s HQ, Poplars Farm Twyford, Barrow upon Trent DE73 7HJ. You’ll make your way up to Newton Solney on foot and back by canoe. Look out for otters, water voles, kingfishers and dragonflies. The event is supported by Trent Adventure, Derby Runner and Alpkit.
