Calling all Musicians for the Wildside Festival Song Competition

The Wildside Festival, run by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, have launched a song competition, seeking an anthem of salvation for local wildlife.

They are seeking “a beautiful, wild song to bellow across the county and beyond.”
The Wildside Festival wants to hear from songwriters, singers, musicians, and bands who can write their own songs.  They are calling for those passionate about wildlife to create music which will inspire people to save the many species which are vanishing at a rapid rate, and help nature to recover from the damage we humans have wrought.

The Derbyshire WIldlife Trust are looking for bands, musicians, singers and songwriters from all walks of life to enter the competition, and to pen a song about the wildlife we’re in danger of losing.
The songs do not merely go to a panel.  The public will vote for the song they want to win, and the winning song will spearhead the Wilder Future Campaign.

The winning entry will perform at the Derbyshire Wildlife Trusts’ Wildside Festival in June. Their work will be promoted across social meedia to an audience of more than 25,000, across multiple platforms. The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust hopes for an “eco-anthem” whose “words and melody could inspire the change that our county’s wildlife so desperately needs.”

How to enter

Entries will be welcomed from songwriters, solo musicians and bands, and compositions as simple, complex or abstract as you wish. All that is asked is that songs explore UK wildlife and landscapes, and evoke the emotions that nature can make us feel; inspired, relaxed or filled with joy. Derbyshire Wildlife Trust would also like entries to reveal a positive vision for a wilder future that we can all enjoy. Are you feeling inspired yet? Great!

Step One:

Gather your friends and fellow musicians, or pick up a pen and begin to write by yourself. Compose a song that reminds us just how marvellous our wild landscape truly is.

Step Two:

Record your song, whether that’s on your phone or computer, or in a home studio. Videos are fine, as long as your song is audible and recorded in a digital format.

Step Three:

Send your song to Derbyshire Wildlife Trust by March 31st 2019.

Files can be sent via email or the WeTransfer app.

Send your songs to jroper@derbyshirewt.co.uk, and be sure to include:

  • Your name and contact details
  • The name of your band or solo act
  • The song’s title
  • A description of your song and inspiration in no more than 100 words

Step Four

Your song will be added to the Wildside Festival website, promote entries and open up voting to the public. The winning song will be announced on May 10th.

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust says, “this competition is a great opportunity for musicians and songwriters, as well as being an amazing platform for our wildlife. Our wild landscapes and their inhabitants need our help more than ever; help Derbyshire Wildlife Trust to inspire that change.”
