Rebel Belper: A Free History Walk
Rebellion – A Radically Different Walk in Belper
Friday 2nd November.
10.15am, starts Market Place, Belper, DE56 1FZ, Finishes at 12.30pm,
back in Belper.
Find out where the radicals and dissenters of the Belper district
gathered on the outskirts of town; about the might-have-beens and
close calls of past centuries; and how protest has been part of life
in this part of Derbyshire right up to the present day. We take one
of the oldest routes into Belper from the East, remembering past
events, and finish in the Market Place, where religious dissenter John
Wesley once preached.
There’ll be ups and downs, so you’ll need a stout pair of shoes. No pitchforks,
blazing torches or government provocateurs, but well-behaved dogs on leads
are allowed – even in the Deer Park.
Led by Adrian Farmer with Keith Venables.
FREE. Pre-booking advised on 01629 536831. Not suitable for
wheelchairs – some challenging gradients and steps. Older children
welcome.
