New Media Service ‘DV On Demand’ Goes Live This September
DV on Demand, an information and media hub for the Derwent Valley, will launch September 24 at 11am.
Derwent Valley On Demand (DV On Demand) will be a new service for the Derwent Valley, incorporating the World Heritage Site from the Silk Mill to Matlock. An all-day launch event will feature a series of presentations, Q & A’s and networking at Number 28, The Market Place, Belper.
George Gunby, the former co-ordinator of the popular Belper Arts Festival, spoke about exciting new venture, saying: “It is generally felt that the Derwent Valley from Derby to Matlock is largely ignored as it falls outside Derby City and the Peak District.”
“DV On Demand is aiming to shine a light on the valley with a community driven web site that will encourage visitors and highlight the great things that happen.”
DV On Demand began with an audio podcast but in the months that have followed this has been developed to include videos that include podcasts under Artsword. During the summer DV On Demand has broadcast live on Facebook from the Arts Trail, Belper Goes Green, the Arts Festival and St. John’s School Fete.
The team has also produced videos (featured on Facebook and Twitter) that covered Open Gardens, In Bloom, Well Dressings and the Walk For Life. The Artsword section has featured artists and performers in videoed interviews.
Derbyshire Artsword is brought to you by Fliss Goldsmith and this week we bring you the Hannells Darley Park Concert, Beyond Shame at Derby Theatre, the Wirksworth Festival, the Duffield Arts Festival, a Matinee – dementia friendly film screenings of An American in Paris and the Dana Ali Band at the Fishpond in Matlock Bath. The website will carry podcast videos produced by the communities which will enable anyone with an internet connection from Alaska to Zimbabwe can see and learn about the Derwent Valley.

George Gunby, speaking on the changing face of media, said: “The way that we watch and consume media has been revolutionised. We are no longer restricted by programming schedules. People now expect to watch content when it suits them.
“Whether they are in Allestree, Duffield, Ambergate, Cromford, the Bath or Matlock we’ll be encouraging people to make their own videos. We want potential visitors to see what is available and what a great place the valley is.”
