WHAT'S ON

Belper Arts Festival: Recorder Workshop

Whether princess or pauper, republican or royalist, you may have noticed a royal wedding is imminent.

We invite you to join Belper Recorders Group in our 4th Belper Arts Festival workshop for a fun programme of ‘royal’ celebratory music from the last five centuries.

The workshop takes place at Strutts Centre, Derby Road, Belper (plenty of free parking and also on a bus route / within easy walking distance from Belper railway station) from 1.30 pm (sign in and warm up from 1 pm) to 4.30 pm on Saturday 12th May and costs £13 which includes hot and cold drinks and lots of cake.

Peter Fender, a London-based musician, conductor, composer and conducting teacher http://www.peterfender.co.uk/  will be leading the workshop and helping us to get the most out of the music and ourselves.

He has run two previous workshops solely for Belper Recorders Group: in the first, an introduction to conducting skills and in the second working on some pieces from Scarlatti’s Suite for Recorder Quartet and Peter’s own composition ‘3 Miniatures for Recorder Ensemble op.26’.

For more details or to register your interest or to buy a ticket – please contact Marianne by phone: 01332 781991 or email:  marianne.hulse@googlemail.com

It is necessary to book in advance (no tickets will be available on the door) and in previous years these workshops have been very popular so we advise booking as soon as you can.

Please note: This workshop is open to players of any shape or size recorder but is not suitable for beginner players. Bookings are only via Marianne, not the Belper Arts Festival Box Office. Once registered you will be sent the music electronically. Please remember your music stand!

Belper Recorders Group meets about twice a month on Saturday mornings at the Strutts Centre in Belper, with tuition and musical direction from Verity Thompson.

We play a wide variety of music, mainly for our own pleasure, but have started to give occasional performances, including at the Royal Derby Hospital and just before Christmas 2017 at Haddon Hall.

The group is currently open to new members playing Bass, Tenor and/or Treble recorders at intermediate or improver standard (and operates a ‘waiting list’ for descant-only players). If you are unable to attend this get in touch with Hilary on 01773 827274
