Council Prepares For A38 Spring Clean

Amber Valley Borough Council’s annual spring clean of the A38’s verges has been scheduled to start on Sunday 24 February and continue over the following five Sundays.

Usually the big clean-up takes place over a number of nights, but the Council has this year secured permission from Highways England to conduct the work during daylight hours, which will improve the effectiveness of the operation.

Commented Amber Valley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment, Cllr Chris Short: “We are expecting an even bigger task than usual this year as the road’s verges are looking very heavily littered. The estimated cost of the clean-up to local people is between £30,000 and £35,000, so I would like to appeal to motorists to dispose of litter appropriately and for drivers of commercial vehicles to ensure their loads are properly secured to prevent litter on the scale we are currently seeing. I would also ask drivers to take extra care when driving through the lane closures”

The clean-up requires that one lane of the dual carriageway be closed during work, and this will happen from 5.00am – 4.00pm.
