Highland Cattle Return to Belper Parks Wildflower Meadow

Highland cattle have returned to the wildflower meadow in Belper Parks to help with the conservation of the site over the Christmas period and into the New Year.

Highland cattle are widely used on wildflower meadow sites. They are natural conservationists as they happily munch through tough weeds, grasses and thistles. In addition their hooves trample the ground helping to break down dead vegetation and creating the conditions for new growth in the spring.

The cattle will remain on site for the next 4-6 weeks.  If you are visiting the wildflower meadow during this time, please keep dogs on a lead and close all the gates behind you.

Highland cattle have long hair. That should help them keep warm in this cold weather we’ve been having.
