Belper PSPOs Now In Place To Combat Anti-Social Behaviour

A number of new Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) have been approved by Amber Valley Borough Council to further combat anti-social behaviour in the Belper area. After a period of consultation (see our previous article) the PSPOs will now take affect from the 20th of October and will cover, Belper Town Centre, the Manor Recreation Ground and Belper Cemetery.

The Council’s Cabinet agreed to impose conditions to deal with particular nuisance issues.

The three types of anti-social behaviour that the Council wishes to control are:

  • anti-social behaviour in cemeteries – control of dogs by making it an offence if a person who is in charge of a dog that defecates, fails to remove the faeces
  • fly-tipping – by installing barriers restricting access to areas identified as illegal tipping hot-spots
  • alcohol consumption in town centres and parks by prohibiting at all times consumption of alcohol or being in possession of an open container of alcohol

The locations of the PSPOs and the terms of each order are listed on the Council’s website –www.ambervalley.gov.uk/asb – all links can be find in the right-hand column called ‘related links’.

Commenting on the PSPOs, The Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, Cllr Jane Orton, said:

The aim is to address key issues that are having a detrimental effect on the quality of life of residents and visitors to the Borough, and we have carried out extensive work and public consultation to identify the most serious problem areas. These PSPOs will now enable the Council and Derbyshire Constabulary to tackle the anti-social behaviours that have been a blight on these areas.

To report anti-social behaviour, contact AVBC on 01773 570222 (Monday-Friday 9am till 4.30pm, Wednesday 10am till 4.30pm) or contact the Police on 101. You can also use the online reporting form available on the website here: Reporting Anti-Social Behaviour.
