Green Exchange Set For Produce Swap And Plastic Advice

Transition Belper’s Green Exchange at No 28, Market Place, Belper on Saturday 23rd September from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm will feature a giant garden produce swap session.

They are asking visitors to bring their excess home-made jam, pickles and garden produce and pick up something in return. They will also be swapping paperback books.

This is Transition’s first swap stall of excess garden produce and paperback books. But they don’t want to stop there. Would you like to see them swapping other stuff? Then please get involved. Got nothing to swap? Then make a small donation instead. Got something to swap but see nothing you want? Take away a token and pick something up at a future café.

Kids against plastic

In addition, youngsters Amy and Ella Meek, 13 and 11 years old respectively, are on a mission to raise awareness on the negative effect of plastic on the environment.

The Kids Against Plastic campaign has 4 main aims:

• Help give people in the UK a CLEAR understanding of the environmental effects of our use and misuse of single-use plastic
• Give UK people CLEAR and easy-to-do ideas of things they can do to reduce their single-use footprint
• CLEAR 100,000 pieces of single-use plastic beverage items and microplastics from the environment
• CLEAR single-use plastic bottles off the shelves of UK supermarket

To help educate businesses they have introduced “Plastic Clever Cafes” scheme, where they award cafes willing to do their bit for the planet and help reduce the amount of unnecessary plastic that is circulated throughout society.

Green activist, Sue MacFarlane will also be in attendance to talk about her own personal journey to reduce and eliminate plastic use.

Apart from all the talking and swapping there will be teas, coffee and cake on sale – delicious and reasonably priced.
