Blue Skies For Blue Box Belper’s Community Fun Day

The sun shone brightly on the Parks Estate Community Fun Day on Sunday 30th July, with over 200 residents coming out to enjoy the afternoon event.

From crafts to climbing, drumming to a scavenger hunt, there was a range of different activities for visitors to have a go at. Derby Djembe drummers said: “We’ve had ourselves a great day at the Parks Community Fun Day, with so many young people getting involved in the drumming, climbing, crafting and other events!”

The Community Day was run by local community group Blue Box Belper in partnership with Derbyshire Youth Service, Fleet Arts and Belper Early Years Fun. The tombola, cake sale and jumble sale raised £189.90 towards the Belper Early Years Fun groups, and the project to rebuild the Blue Box Community Facility.

Blue Box Belper was established in 2012 to support the work of a local Youth Club on the Parks Estate.

In May 2015 the original Blue Box building had to be demolished following a fire. Since then Blue Box Belper has been developing plans and raising funds for a new building.

Following a consultation with the local community the focus has broadened to serving the needs of the whole community. The group is currently supporting the youth project through securing funding for activities and trips, and is also running regular craft sessions and coffee afternoons for the older residents.

Their next community event is this Friday (11th August) at the old Children’s Centre on Alder Road, where local Historian Adrian Farmer will be giving a short talk on the history of the Park’s Estate.
