On Sunday May 28th, at Arkwrights Real Ale Bar, there will be a day of live music in aid of Amber-Rose Elliot who is raising funds to volunteer in a refugee camp in Lesbos.
The day will feature a host of local artists and some from further afield who will be giving up their time especially to play in aid of the fundraising campaign.
Amber-Rose said: “This summer I will be volunteering in a refugee camp in Lesbos. All money raised will be put towards the costs incurred in volunteering. Anything raised over this will be donated straight to the NGO.”
Lesbos, a critical point in the refugee crisis, has seen hundreds of thousands of refugees arriving from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. So far this year around 40,000 have risked their lives travelling to Europe by sea and almost 1000 are feared to have drowned making the journey.
As the UNHCR states: “Persecution, conflict and poverty forced over 1 million people to flee to Europe in 2015. Many came seeking safety for themselves and their families, risking their lives and facing a treacherous journey.”
