Primary School Places To Be Announced Today

Parents in the region will today be notified about their child’s primary school place.

Derbyshire County Council are aiming for over 98% of children to be offered a place at one of their three preferred schools. They will today be contacting all 11,196 parents to offer reception and junior places.

Of those parents who applied for a reception place by the deadline, 93.8% will be offered a place at their first preference school and 98.3 % will be offered a place at one of their three preferred schools.

And of those who applied for a junior place by the deadline, 96.9% will be offered a place at their first preference school and 98.3% will be offered a place at one of their three preferred schools.

Parents who applied online or through the Call Derbyshire contact centre will receive an email about their child’s place after 9.30am on Tuesday 18 April 2017 if they provided an email address. Parents can also view their school allocation online (opens in a new window).

The council will write to those parents who did not provide an email address or who sent in a paper application.

The Strategic Director for Children’s Services Jane Parfrement said:

“Choosing the right school for your child is a very important decision and we know it can be a nervous wait but the vast majority of parents have got their first choice.

“Our staff have processed 11,811 applications and balanced the requests of parents with the places available at each school.

“I would urge parents who haven’t yet applied for their child’s primary school place to contact us as soon as possible − we have a dedicated team on hand to help and guide them through the process.”

Difficulties often arise as parents do not have an automatic right for their children to be given a place at a particular school. A number of parents who have not been allocated their first choice are then placed in a situation where they have to appeal the decision to an independent panel.

The closing date for appeals is Tuesday 23 May 2017.
