Belper Astronomy Society To Be Formed
Are you an amateur stargazer? Do you want to learn more about the universe?
A new astronomy society is being founded in Belper and they are looking for new members to join.
The Belper Astronomy Society welcomes people of all abilities and knowledge from beginner to advanced.
They will be holding regular meetings and organiser Andrew Huskinson has booked the upper bar in the Queens Head, Chesterfield Road, on the following Thursday nights up to Christmas:
- September 15th
- October 6th
- October 20th
- November 3rd
- November 17th
- December 1st
- December 15th Xmas Party
Meetings will be from 7.30 PM. These will be social club nights and will make use of the patio at the rear of the Queen’s Head Pub. On clear nights they will have a small telescope in use.
Once the society are established as a club and have the Federation of Astronomy Societies membership and Third Party Insurance they aim to go out to public dark sky sites as well. Dark sky sites offer spectacular stargazing opportunities, mostly in rural areas, for astronomers in areas that have reduced light pollution.
In the future the society also aims to have outside speakers, or their own members, in once a month to do a talk or demonstration. They also want organise public star parties for members of the public come and to use their telescopes.
Further details may be obtained by emailing organiser Andrew Huskinson.
This is great news!! I’ve been hoping this would come along in Belper and look forward to attending.
Will there be an admission fee? I’m really looking forward to next Thursday!! I’m a beginner but love the stars and this is a great idea.
