Have Your Say On The Future Of Belper’s Council Office

A consultation is now open to discuss the future of Belper’s Town Centre office on King Street.

Amber Valley Borough Council is examining the future of its Town Centre Offices in Alfreton, Heanor and Belper.

Currently 90% of Council Tax payers use electronic means (including Direct Debit) to pay their tax and less people are using cash as a method of payment.

Concerns have been raised by our readers about the ease and expense of travelling to a different location if the Belper Town Centre office closes. Whilst most people have access to the internet and phone services, not all people do and complex queries may make accessing services increasingly difficult.

The Council is facing a 40% reduction in the funding which it receives from the Government and as a consequence the Council needs to review the services it provides. This means that it may not be able to provide all the services it does at present.

The Conservative government has cut funding by £2.3 million per year by 2020/21 at a time when the council already has a budget deficit from previous massive cuts and reductions in support.

AVBC will consider the responses to this consultation at a future meeting of the Council where it will make a decision on the future of the service.
