Fourth Annual Belper Goes Green Eco-festival a Huge Success
This weekend saw the fourth annual Belper Goes Green Eco-festival being held at Belper Rugby Club.
Hundreds attended on each of the three days, making it the most successful and biggest event since it launched. Ian Jackson, Chairman of organisers Transition Belper, said:
“There were many highlights over the weekend. Being able to talk about new Transition Belper activities such as B-Hive and Inner Transition to the many visitors to the stall was great, and felt like a reenergising of Transition Belper. Seeing so many people of all backgrounds and ages enjoying a special location in Belper together will be my lasting memory.”
The intention of the festival was to share simpler, low carbon and environmentally friendly ways of doing things in a relaxed and uplifting format that puts a smile on the face of Belper. Indeed, a smile was put on the faces of those who attended, as they watched dozens of bands play over several stages and sampled over 30 real ales and ciders from the CAMRA group.
In addition to the music, there was plenty of delicious food to sample, with a huge selection of stands that catered for meat-eaters as well as offering veggie and vegan options.
Over at the back of the field, children were kept busy with toys and activities, crafts and community art projects such as Emma Parkins’ recycled flower maze and Carol Beavis’ stone balancing circle.
There was a health and wellbeing area to relax and find peace; energy and low carbon travel advice; craft and recycling stalls; a whole range of community groups; charities and campaigns, and a ‘talks tent’ that also screened thought-provoking films.
It was also the first year that the festival offered camping for visitors.
