Belper Open Gardens 2016 Seeks New Garden Owners

Belper Open Gardens was held for the first time in 2012, with 18 keen gardeners sharing their gardening enthusiasm, whilst raising money for local charities, with visitors from the Midlands. Since then, the event has gained in popularity and last year saw more than 400 visitors come from all over the UK which not only helped promote Belper as a tourist attraction, but also helped us raise £1200 for a number of Belper charities.

They are in the process of beginning to organise this year’s event and are very keen to attract more garden owners to take part. They would like gardens of all sizes and shapes across Belper to open their doors and for their owners to share their gardening enthusiasm. The gardens don’t need to be large or perfect, as most visitors love looking around ‘ordinary’ gardens which give them ideas to copy for their own plots.

The weekend is always great fun; all the visitors are extremely friendly and respectful of the gardens and their owners. New gardens encourage past visitors to want to come again, so it’s really important for the group to add some new openings, in order to keep this event going.

I’ve heard such great things about the Open Gardens Scheme over in Belper. Congratulations on raising such a great sum, £1200, for charity too. Am working on doing something similar in my local community here in Chester so will be keeping an eye on your developments.
