Care Home Staff And Residents Get A Kick Out Of Shrovetide

Residents at a care home in Milford had a ball when they took part in an event with a difference.

To celebrate Shrovetide, staff and those living at Milford House, which is part of Milford Care, kicked a football from the residential side of the home over to the nursing side.

The event was in keeping with the annual two day Shrovetide football match in Ashbourne, which sees crowds gathers in the street to kick a giant football and aim for goals that are three miles apart.

Activities co-ordinator, Kathryn White, said: “Milford House’s Shrovetide match didn’t quite span the three miles that Ashbourne’s does, but it did run from one end of the house to the other, encompassing both buildings and involving all residents and staff.

“The game lasted about an hour, nearly all of the residents got involved and thought it was a really good time. I normally go to Ashbourne and knew I would miss it so I said I would try and do it at work.

“There were no winners, it was all in the name of fun and after the event everyone enjoyed pancakes.”

The match kicked off in the main house and wended its way through the home to the Coach House. Every resident was given the chance to kick or tap the ball on its way to the Coach House and back again.
