Free Christmas Parking For Amber Valley Residents

Amber Valley Borough Council is reminding local residents that by displaying their free parking permit in the windscreen of their car that they can enjoy free parking over the Christmas period. The offer is valid for all of the Borough Council’s pay and display car parks. The period of free Christmas parking runs from Monday 18th December until Tuesday 26th December inclusive. The Christmas offer is designed to encourage residents to shop locally in order to support traders and, thereby, boost the local economy.

The offer follows a long running tradition intended to attract additional Christmas trade to the Borough’s four town centres. When they display the valid permit, residents can take advantage of free parking at all times of the day in Belper, Ripley, Heanor and Alfreton, and any of the Council’s 34 Pay & Display car parks throughout the Borough.  The offer only applies during the Christmas period. Other rules regarding parking in disabled parking bays and maximum stays will still apply.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Trevor Ainsworth said:

It’s the Council’s great pleasure at this time of year, to offer free parking to local residents, to encourage them to shop within their local town centres, and to help support local businesses.

Free parking is valid from 12 midnight on Monday 18th until midnight on Tuesday 26th December 2017. The council issues the free residents permit to all households in the Borough alongside the annual Council Tax Demand.  In addition to free Christmas parking the permit also provides free parking after 4pm throughout the year. For a one-off fee of £2, residents can also obtain an upgraded permit to allow free parking on Sundays. For the over 60’s a permit allowing free parking after 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays is also available.

Any Amber Valley resident that does not currently have a permit can still obtain one of the upgraded permits. Just take your vehicle log book and £2 to the Ripley town centre cash office to get one.

Is it not possible to give those people who have purchased a Permit a few free days when they come to renew as they have already paid, my daughter works in Alfreton and buys her permit every three months or so, thank you.
