Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre Receives £1000 Grant From Belper Town Council

The Town Council, at its Full Council meeting on June 13, made a £1000 Grant to Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.

The Town Council also agreed to give regular funding to the Centre for the next 3 years.

DCHC – Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre – is a registered charity which provides Derbyshire children experiencing difficult times at home with a week-long holiday in Skegness, Lincolnshire. It was established in 1891 and provides 660 holiday places per season, which runs between April and October.

The residential experience provides endless opportunity for contributing to the personal and social development of the children, especially making it clear to them that they are accepted as worthwhile individuals.

The development of the children’s self-esteem, attitudes and behaviour can be significant during the period.

Opportunities for personal development are created for the children, whatever their strengths and abilities. For many children the relationships gained remain with them throughout their lives.

The Centre said “We are very grateful for the assistance of Belper Town Council, which has agreed to support DCHC providing financial assistance of £100 per child from Belper who holiday at the Centre, up to a maximum of £1000, for the next three years. This is a very generous gesture for which we are extremely grateful.”
