Election Special: Green Party Candidate For Mid-Derbyshire Sue MacFarlane

I joined the Green Party because I believe that policies and plans at all levels of government should be for the benefit of everyone, for the common good. I believe that not everything can be – or should be – measured in terms of money, and that it’s possible to have an economy that works for people and for the environment.

Part of my work is as a singer and Natural Voice Practitioner, helping people to find and effectively use their voice. I am also an independent celebrant, working with people to build meaningful ceremonies such as namings, weddings and funerals.  I listen carefully and ensure that those conversations are translated into rituals that truly reflect the people involved.   I want the people of Mid Derbyshire find their voice, be heard, and feel that they are truly represented in Parliament.

The Green Party has bold ideas to create a confident and caring Britain that we can all be proud of. We aren’t afraid to hope for a better future or to be honest about how we get there. We believe in being brave, in speaking our minds, and in standing up for what matters. We are proud to do politics differently.

Green Party policies align with my core values and beliefs.  When I ask people who are members of other political parties if they agree with all the policies of their party, they often say ‘No, that would be unrealistic’.  Well, for me, within the Green Party, it’s perfectly realistic.  This is why I am a member of the Green Party, it’s why I am an activist within the party, and it’s why I am the Green Party candidate for Mid Derbyshire at this election. Anybody can check to see if their core values chime with ours at https://policy.greenparty.org.uk

If I am elected, these are my promises to the people of Mid Derbyshire:

  • I will work for a national health service that is publicly owned and free for all.
  • I will fight for equality, fairness, and for a society where nobody is left behind.
  • I will always act strongly on climate change and to protect the natural world we love.
  • I will push for genuinely affordable, warm homes built in places that do not impact on our green environment
  • I will stand up for what matters.

At this election, Mid Derbyshire people have the opportunity to vote in line with their core values, to elect a Green MP who is listening to you and acting on your concerns.

People often tell me that the Green policies I talk about make sense, and that they would love to vote for me if they felt that their vote would count.

I say this – if you never vote for what you believe in, you will never get it.

If anyone is considering voting Green on June 8th, even if you’ve never voted Green before, please do it – your vote will count.
