Moroccan Restaurant Opens Doors To Those In Need On Christmas Day

Moroccan restaurant ‘Olive’ will be opening on Christmas day from 1pm to serve a free meal to anyone who would like to join them.

Owner and host Jacqui Gilbert made the gesture earlier today on social media, saying: “Don’t be on your own…you are very welcome there’s no charge. Please share this and hopefully we can bring a little cheer. I only have 25 seats so please phone to reserve.”

1.2 million people in the UK are chronically lonely and the festive period is a particularly difficult time for those who feel isolated.

The restaurant, which opened earlier this year, has been a huge success and welcome addition to those dining out in Belper. The offer was met with a huge response from online local residents who called it an ‘amazing’ and ‘lovely’ gesture.

The cosy, candle lit setting offers a variety of Moroccan dishes from Mezze to Tagines and its intimate atmosphere encourages sharing between diners.

Jacqui was born in Derby, but spent many years travelling the world refining her cooking skills. Prior to opening the North African restaurant in Belper, she spent 18 months teaching cookery in Morocco.
