A Poem For National Poetry Day
Errand
What message is sent
with drills not of seed corn
but of nature bent
to an unholy toil
with plougshares turned
to drills and rigs
to pillage the soil;
no jigs of joy
but square dancing
in the hills
4 by 4, the bull-barred
ranks of HGVs
push through the lanes
of England’s villages.
A thane has overuled
the people’s will.
