WHAT'S ON

Robb Johnson at The Queens Head on Feb 19th. £7. Doors at 8.00pm. Support from Chris Butler.

In what seems to be the month of the songwriter we welcome Robb Johnson back to The Queens Head.

Tony Benn always claimed that ‘When Winter Turns to Spring’ was his favourite song and Robb, like Billy Bragg, has always been identified with political causes. However, like Bragg, Robb has far more in his locker being just as capable of writing a stunning love song or using humour to make a point.

From The Tolpuddle Festival where Robb comperes to the BBC’s Folk Britannia concerts, Robb Johnson has long been a stalwart of the contemporary folk scene with his WW1 cycle ‘The Gentle Men’ one of the most adventurous songwriting projects of our time.

Support on this occasion comes from our very own Mr Chris Butler so a night of exemplary writing and performance.

Looking ahead, on March 5th we welcome back Sunjay spearheading the new folk/blues scene and on March 12th Winter Wilson who took the Derby Folk Festival by storm last October.
