Belper Public Meeting: Labour’s Alternative to Austerity

Alternative

What is ‘austerity’? Are we really ‘all in it together’?

The gap between the rich and poor in the UK is the worst in Europe. This is not an accident. Multi-national companies can ‘legally’ avoid paying tax in this country. Top earners have been given tax cuts and enjoy huge pay increases.

As for the rest of us, we can no longer feel secure and confident about the future for ourselves and our families. The services and support which we value in our society are coming under vicious attack.   We see cuts to valued public services, including the NHS, care for the elderly, mental health care, libraries, children’s centres. Thousands have seen their income reduced, through lower wages, insecure work, and cuts in benefits for those unable to work.

And we are persuaded that this is how it should be.

So is there really no alternative? Few people have had the chance to think, let alone discuss, what possible alternatives might be. Belper Labour Party is organising a public meeting to provide this opportunity.

Wednesday February 17th 2016, 7.30pm at No. 28 Community Hall, Market Place, Belper

“Labour’s Alternative to Austerity”

Speaker: Chris Williamson (formerly Derby North MP).

Come along to join in the discussion.
